Projek Kampung Angkat

Once again “Projek Kampung Angkat” is BACK!!!

This time Imagination Club (i-Club) UKM has decided to take “Projek Kampung Angkat” in Abaco Estate to a whole new approach with more challenging intentions to fulfill.

The cause of the current poverty level of the residents besides their occupation restrictions can also be convicted to the improper financial management as well as the lack of awareness towards saving plans for generations.

Insufficient exposure regarding the fun of learning has put the interest of the children far-off their tracks. Added with the financial constrains of the family has eventually produced academically low-performing kids.

Since seeking medication instantly is never a privilege for the residents, hence a proper hygiene maintenance has failed to be recognized and put into practice.

Now is the time for you to have your share in this life-changing quest of excitement.

Aims and Objectives :
1. Learn the art of serving the community.
2. An eye-opener for students about the existence and hardship of under-privileged community.
3. Unleashing the caring nature hidden inside every student.
4. To lend a helping hand to those less fortunate people.
5. Contributing in making a difference among young generations for a better tomorrow.

Activities :
• Creating bank accounts for kids
• “Learning Is Fun” games
• Educational awareness talk
• “Clean Yourself” activity
• Gotong-royong

Together everyone achieves more.

We are open for donation and sponsorship on this prestigious event. Kindly contact Yuva at 017-5590103 or iclubukm@gmail.com for more information.

No Apologies is a character-based abstinence curriculum that helps young people make wise choices regarding high-risk behavior, including sexual involvement before marriage. The curriculum deals with the value of the individual, marriage, the family and the importance of keeping ourselves pure for our future spouse.

Date:
Saturday, March 27, 2010
Time:
9:00am - 12:30pm
Location:
Desa Amal Jireh, Broga Semenyih

Objectives
1) Recognize the relationship between love + sex and the benefits of saving sex for marriage.
2) No Apologies is a character-based abstinence curriculum that helps young people make wise choices regarding high-risk behavior, including sexual involvement before marriage.
3) The curriculum deals with the value of the individual, marriage, the family and the importance of keeping ourselves pure for our future spouse.

The Programme
The programme started with an interactive session then the workshop is started around 9.00am.

It is started with Kavita on Healthy Relationships. Healthy relationship is the key message of Unit Two is that we are unique multi-dimensional human beings (emotional, physical, social, ethical and intellectual). Students begin to see themselves, and others, as multi-dimensional. The connection between conduct and character is emphasized. Students set dreams about their future and also set goals to accomplish their dreams. The facilitator facilitates discussion on the obstacles to reaching goals. The class learns about the role character plays in fulfilling dreams. The power of friendship is emphasized.

Second part is done by Hwei Huih about Premarital Sex Has Consequences. In Unit Four, the critical message of the consequences of pre-marital sex is discussed. Unit activities and discussion center on sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), to include HIV / AIDS. The lessons bring understanding to sexual progression and drawing boundaries, decision-making, the consequences of pre-marital sexual activity and dispelling the myth of “safe sex”.

Last part is done by Nanda on Abstinence - It Works Every Time. Unit Six defines abstinence and underscores the benefits of self-control and abstinence. Students practice refusal skills against negative peer pressure and learn to create safe boundaries. Also highlighted in Unit Six is the relationship alcohol and drugs play in peer pressure, date rape and in keeping commitments to their dreams and goals. Students who have been sexually active are encouraged to begin again with an abstinent lifestyle by postponing sexual activity until marriage.

We had some questionnaires with the children after every session of talk. We are glad that the response is good and most of the students are interested to it.  We hope the little contribution we did will inspire a better lifestyle to the next generation.

Sehari Bersama Desa Amal Jireh

A group at 11 members from i-Club went for this charity drive on 30 August 2009, which is a day before our country National Day. Though there is only 11 of us, we manage to run all the activities smoothly. All the orphan had great fun with us for this whole day event and when we are leaving, we get hugs and kisses from them. They were all so charming and easy going kids.

The day started off at sharp 9.30am with short briefing and introduction from i-Club members and also our teacher advisor. The follow with warm up with the kids to get them ready for the first activity of the day... Treasure Hunt. At the same time, Colouring Contest were held inside the hall for the nursery. After treasure hunt, all of them were sited in the hall for Story Telling Competition from the Primary School kids. As its a guys VS ladies contest, the kids were cheering for each group. Lunch were provided by Desa Amal Jireh for all of us at 12.30pm where we the 'fortunate groups' were given a chance to taste the food served in orphanage and they actually served us slightly better food (more ingredients) than those orphan. Reason is they scare that we are not use to eating not much ingredients food. Thanks to them that all of us did enjoy our lunch very much.

Title of their Drama ("Superhero Saves The World") had been given to them 2 weeks before the Charity Drive and it is also a guys VS ladies competition. After lunch the two groups compete with each other again for the prizes. They were given chance to do some simple baking and sandwich making too. The Primary School kids did the Non-bake Chocolate Ball, whereas the Secondary School kids did the Sandwich. The best of the day is eventually the kids took those Chocolate Ball and put it under the sun to bake. Their pure action really make the day for all of us. The Chocolate Balls and Sandwiches were served as their tea time and after that, we continue on with our sports carnival.

The day ended with prize giving and also donation from student (wanted to be anonymous) from UKM to them. Its really a tiring but meaningful day for all of us.

Deas Amal Jireh also accept donation from public, organization and corporate bodies in various forms such as In-kind, cash, sponsorship, providing and helping to raise funds. For donation, please visit their website

Thursday

i-Club General Gathering

A special gathering were planned to meet up all the members on this day. Unfortunately the outcome is not very good but we still carried on with the activities. We started off with an introduction of the purpose of this meeting... which is to elect new committees into i-Club board.

To warm up the members, they are given a very simple task... which is drawing in the dark. Eventually all the members that attended this gathering did a good job even though they have to draw with light. After that they are asked to explain why they come out with this drawing. Some of the creative members linked it into a story, some was things that they like, some miss home, etc...etc... The purpose of this game is just to test their imagination and without light, it’s difficult for one to move on as surely you will skit off from the road. So, i-Club have prepared a platform for the members to learn and explore.

After this game, all of the members were called to stand in a row for the 'Pass the Message' game. Or Dr. Vani, our advisor of the club prefers it to be called 'Chinese Whisper'. The first member is given some lines of words to pass it down the queue... and the message turns out to be super funny when the last person revealed the message. This taught us that always first hand message is better than getting information from other sources. As first hand message are always solid and true.

Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) starts after the games. It started with an introduction form the existing working committee regarding their job scope and further explanation from our advisor, Dr. Vani. The members were given task if they were to choose a post from the one listed, how would they convinced themselves to be elected for the post. All of them did a good presentation to 'Sell Themselves' and lists of new committee members are elected.

Due to time constrain, we have to go through the introduction for our upcoming activity - Charity Drive at Desa Amal Jireh in brief. Short, simple and straight to the point this one day activity wtth the needy which will be on 29 August 2009 we introduced to them and those that is interested are welcome to register their name with us.
